Christmas Eve Years Ago Years ago as I recall I thought I saw him then I don't remember, were I eight, or was I nearly ten Smoke floating from a corncob pipe whispn' off through cloudless sky Traveln' through the gem lit night reindeer with a sleigh did fly, The driver high upon the seat whip and reins held in his hand With shiney black boots on his feet the drivers blue eyes scan the land. Rosy cheeks, white beard, red hat,was this old Santa, could it be? With sleigh filled toys of this and that or just a dream that came to me? It wasn't long he landed there, right before my eyes He came to me down through the air arriving from the skies. No dream twas this was him I know his voice was chrystal clear His shadow fell on pure white snow he and his eight reindeer. The sleigh was full of toys and gifts each wrapped with glossy foil It sat between the white snow drifts as I watched the elfins toil. His laughter soft, he called aloud the time to go is soon I see the makings of a cloud beyond the shining moon. The snowflakes start, his reindeer dance he pulls the reins up taut They fall in line as in a trance obeys as they were taught Off they went through a swirl of snow they soon were lost to sight They left that boy of years ago to vanish in the night.
